EVENT – Edinburgh’s World Naked Bike Ride, 11th June 2011

Edinburgh 2010

11th June will see naked* cyclists assemble at Middle Meadow Walk

As part of World Naked Bike Ride, Edinburgh is hosting another cycle as a "fun and peaceful protest against car culture".

Assembling at Middle Meadow walk from 3pm on Saturday 11th June, cyclists will ride to the top of Holyrood park for a downhill ride, coming back up through the New Town and finishing back at the Meadows.  The cyclists will be escorted by police officers (not naked) to help the event run smoothly and make sure that no decency laws are broken.

The clothing options are pretty simple: "bare-as-you-dare"

The Edinburgh organiser Giselle Wajdner told us, "the onus of this race is promoting oil-free transport and doing your bit for the environment".  She explained the purpose of the cycle, "the naked aspect of the ride is to highlight how vulnerable cyclists are on the road and it's also a fun way to draw attention without recourse to loud noise or distruptive parades."

We certainly think it will be an interesting event.

You can read more information on preparation for the ride here including what is and isn't acceptable to wear in relation to the law.

There is a facebook group page with more details and an event page to confirm your attendance.  You can watch a video from last year's event here.

*bits will be covered with plasters and decorations.
