Gentlemen of the Fleet, it is with much delight that i finally set out the details of our main Q2 Event - The Fleet Cannonball Run.
The Date: Saturday 23rd May 2009.
The Theme: All Nine Fleet Members will drive from Edinburgh to Oban on Saturday 23rd May, starting at Cardo's Pimp Palace in sunny Leith at 9am on said date. The aim of the challenge is to get to Oban in the fastest time possible via automobilen.
The Catch!: The catch is that there will be 10 challenges on route that you must undertake or you incur a time penalty. I can reveal two of these challenges now, with more to follow when you receive your mission packs - here's a snippet.....
Challenge 2: Stop off at Ollie's in Chapelhall and pick up an item from his front garden, bring it with you to the final destination in Oban. Time pentalty for failure = 20 mins. (ie if you decide not to go to Ollie's then you will be docked 20 mins, but can you make that up on the road, i wonder? Depends what else you have to do i guess, so it's a gamble.
Challenge 6: Ensure that you bring photograph with you taken beside a Loch of your choice on route to Oban today. Time penalty for failure = 15 mins. Again, you need to decide if you can do this or take the penalty.
Trust me, there are 8 other stupid/outrageous challenges that have been devised.
The other stipulation: All Fleet Members must take a Civilian with them in their car. This is a full 18 man/woman event. The Civilian will be responsible for logging all activities and ensuring compliance with the rulebook, which will also be contained in your mission pack.
Note the Wikipedia definition of a civilian: "A civilian under international humanitarian law is a person who is not a member of his or her country's armed forces." (ie, no in da fleet!)
In Oban: It is out intention to stay overnight in Oban. If this is an issue for some Fleet members, then this can be discussed at a later date - however now that the date is known then diaries can be updated and cheeky requests to other halves can be made.
Note that this event takes place on the second of the two weekends where there is a bank holiday ;)
Excluded from the Cannonball Run: There has been some St Vinnie's chat about buying a car for a £1 and using that to carry out 'the Run'. Having come off the Shandy now, i think the practicalities of this road bearing vehicle actually making it to Oban (remember i've broken down on this road before and it wasn't fun) are nilo. So this is now outlawed (but Cardo you can try it if you like mate ;))
Oh and finally. We'll ALL be doing this in fancy dress, including civilians. So i think you should all go and find a suitable civilian who might be up for the journey!!
PS, if i don't get Blog Post of the Month for this, i don't know what i need to do :D
